Pre - Fabricated Housing
<-- Index | Showing 1-10 of 10 pictures | Index -->
During and after World War 2, many houses were built quickly to house the growing population who's homes had been destroyed by bombs etc.,

The houses were built of standard components (walls etc.,) and were transported to building sites and vacant plots of the length and breadth of the country, were they were assembled to provide accomodation, to those people left homeless.

There are certain pockets of this housing that have lasted, but not many. I have seen many up and down the country but never photographed them until now!!

There is a road in Liverpool, were the houses are double deck pre-fabs with tin roofs, Princess Drive, Huyton.

This initial collection is the only full and complete housing estate to survive as far as I know in 2008, although as you can see many of the houses have been refurbished and modernised, their are quite a lot that look completely original, this estate is in Overpool, Ellesmere Port, Cheshire.
